so I'm looking for a tool that will let me set a sniffer on a SPAN port monitoring my uplink, and will count packets (well, count bytes to/from a particular IP. I don't get charged on packets.)
See, I've got port level BCP38 nearly everywhere, so I don't have to worry much about spoofing, and with this (unlike port-level accounting) I can sell customers storage or other things on my own network and only charge them for packets that leave my network. So yeah, right now I'm using bandwidthd, and it is IPv4 only and doesn't give me the 95th percentile. Suboptimal. I found this: http://www.pmacct.net/ which looks a lot like what I want. a tool to drop my packet counts into rrdtool. (from there I can do what I need, no problem.) Does anyone else have experience with this sort of thing? is there something I'm missing vs. port counters? _______________________________________________ Tech mailing list [email protected] http://lopsa.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/tech This list provided by the League of Professional System Administrators http://lopsa.org/
