They actually started out somewhere else nearby, over a barber
shop.  Originally they were software.net, selling software
(Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, etc.) in encrypted installers over the
net.  The fraud-detection software they wrote as part of that
process turned out to be pretty useful on its own, so they spun
Cybersource off to resell that service, and it eventually took
over.

I think I was the second SA they hired.  By that time they were in
San Jose, and the SAs weren't in the halls, but the ``data
center'' was a bunch of racks in a big open room with cubes at one
end, and their credit-card processing was done on a flaky DOS
machine that had ``do not touch'' signs all over it.  When I was
there they were in the process of moving some services into a real
colo (in a cage across the hall from the original hotmail!).
They've come a long way since then.
