I found it pretty easy to build ruby and puppet for solaris. I suspect this isn't going to be a big deal. > But I'm still tip-toeing into all this CfgMgt aspect, since I need to > convince (by example hopefully!) my co-workers that this will be a > good thing to do. I've been using puppet a lot these last 6 months, and I'm not sure I can wholly recommend it. It has it's own language, which is a little weird in places, and doesn't always feel wholly baked. Writing good puppet code requires I be a software engineer, not a sysadmin. This may or may not work for you. There's a bunch of other open source configuration management tools. Different tools have different models -- some work by describing and end state, and others a collection of steps. Some have a "gold master" server, where others have a config language. Generally speaking, I would not recommend cfengine. When I was last looking, I found lots of reasonable comparisons on the internet. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_open_source_configuration_management_software seems like a reasonable overview, though it lacks any negatives. Good luck seph _______________________________________________ Tech mailing list [email protected] http://lopsa.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/tech This list provided by the League of Professional System Administrators http://lopsa.org/
