I never heard of pigz before - I figured something like it must exist - but
now that I know of pigz - I can't get it to compile on solaris.

 

Presently, I am aware of pbzip2 (very good compression, not very fast,
ported successfully to every OS I tried yet)

And as you mentioned, pigz, based on zlib.

 

And I'd like to know of a similar one based on LZO.  But haven't found one
yet.
