Well, to the best of my knowledge, the "reliance" on ld.so for "static" binaries is an unwanted side-effect... and the people in charge of the change are trying to figure out how to achieve that... I did send this "heads-up" because the pie stuff has been in current for a while, with no immediate fix coming, and I feel strongly that such a hidden nasty drawback, even if it gets fixed subsequently (which I hope) is something that we shouldn't ever hide from our users. When pie got in, I had no idea about that hidden dependency, and I wrote my heads-up a few hours after I first became aware of the issue.
