Important point here: 500 * 8 * 32 == 128000 sectors, or 64MB. i.e. this probably the size used to create the fdisk partition. So I suspect your BIOS is old enough to somehow insist on CHS values rather than LBA, and we are taking the cylinder count at face value in fdisk.
