The real problem here is that many people choose 1 partition.

Which implies trusting that all the software has been audited and
improved for how it behaves when partitions get full.

I'll provide a hint.  No such audit has happened...


(Perhaps you don't make the mistake of using 1 partition.  But many
do.  And many will do so, and it was the easy default practice
forever, and still is in other systems.  Hence otto and I moved to
stop this bad behaviour by creating an auto-layout scheme which could
be used by default.  If you avoid it, you should still follow the same
partition splitting rules, but AGAIN... most people won't do so).
