Exactly the same behaviour here on:

iwn0 at pci3 dev 0 function 0 "Intel WiFi Link 5100" rev 0x00: msi, MIMO 1T2R, 
MoW

My /etc/hostname.iwn0 runs a script which uses 'scan' and that works
fine - no idea why manual one is "special".

Other than that, it seems to be working fine - tested briefly on
'eduroam' with Aruba AP 214.
