Right.  The amap data structures were largely redone for 6.0, with the
specific purpose of reducing memory usage.  That work is not present
in 5.9-stable.  I won't rule out that root can still push it to the
point where you exhaust the virtual memory space reserved for
malloc(9), but it should be a lot harder.
