In practice, we cannot expect manual writers - who are mortal developers and not typography gods - to pay attention to proportional font glyph widths and kerning. Those who are - like Doug McIlroy or Brian Kernighan - would do the right thing instinctively anyway, but the others just shouldn't need to bother. Adding this as yet another item to Jason's "tweak previous" checklist sounds like a bad idea, too - unless i can support it by adding a warning to -Tlint, but that would cause some work and seems low priority at best. Jason, do you agree to simply ignore the problem in general, but to commit such patches whenever people care and send specific, correct patches? In any case, this one is OK schwarze@.
