Dear Ubuntu Technical Board Not too long ago, the TB approved Kubuntu's request to change their primary sponsor from Canonical to Blue Systems.
In Edubuntu, we've realised that in order to grow the project, we will from time to time also need some additional sponsorship. At this stage, it is items ranging from development hardware to hosting for application servers. Currently we have one company providing us with our additional requirements, as well as employee time during work hours which is quite valuable. We'd like to provide some official recognition as well as open the doors for more sponsors if more sponsorship opportunities become available. In particular, we'd like to give sponsors the right to use the Edubuntu logo on their site and state that they are a sponsor, as well as providing a link bank from the Edubuntu website explaining their contributions. Unlike Kubuntu, we want to continue to acknowledge Canonical as Edubuntu's primary sponsor. Canonical provides build infrastructure, travel & accommodation for UDS for 1 representative of the project and in many cases we've had Canonical employees fix some Edubuntu bugs. Canonical also had full-time staff working on the project at some point. The new sponsors would be listed after Canonical as secondary sponsors to the project. The Edubuntu Council will review these sponsors on an annual basis and once a sponsor has been inactive for a sponsorship cycle, they will be moved to a "previous" sponsors page. There's a description on what we aim to achieve on: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Edubuntu/Sponsorship The contents of the above link was agreed upon by the current Edubuntu Council. We would like the Technical Board to approve this process. Looking at the Ubuntu trademark policy, it doesn't seem like it would be a problem for sponsor to put an Edubuntu logo on their site and link it back to the Edubuntu site. If we need to do some additional work there, please let us know. We want to tentatively go ahead with this, so it would be great to have an official nod from the TB. If there's any objections or concerns, I would suggest raising them sooner rather than later. Thanks for reading and have a great day! -Jonathan on behalf of the Edubuntu Council -- technical-board mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/technical-board
