Thanks to some help I've found a replacement for the Windows Explorer
called Xplorer 2.
Windows Explorer doesn't really offer all that much when you're trying
to do house keeping with files under Windows whereas Xplorer 2 certainly
does and with minimum customisation this application becomes quite
accessible with a Screen Reader.
Xplorer 2 is very similar to X-Tree or Norton Commander so if people
have used these programmes then you'll know the sort of thing I'm
talking about.
There is an X-Tree for Windows but I've not been able to make this
accessible as yet though I can see everything on the screen the software
refers to on the hard drive etc when I move the mouse pointer around the
screen so I would imagine that if I sat down for an hour or so and
played with X-Tree and a Screen Reader I could probably get x-Tree
working reasonably well.
Another file management utility which has been mentioned is something
called Directory Opus or "DOpus" for short, I've not played with this
utility yet and thus have no idea how well it will work nor how well it
compares to Xplorer 2 but DOpus did get a very good review in the
computer column, even has its own built-in FTP browser which makes
perfect sense for a file manager <smile>.
There's a 21 day trial of Xplorer 2 avaiable, unfortunately I don't have
an URL handy right now, will look for and post later unless anyone else
has found it before me.
