Subject line says it all, I've taken a quick look and I hope to describe what I've found.
Firstly the person with lack of vision is most likely going to require some help to install the system. The whole kit is nicely packaged in a rather large box. The first thing I noticed was the weather station itself, its a large square box designed to fit on a wall or a desk and the screen is huge, I'd imagine the screen is the size it is so that both indoor and outdoor measurements can be displayed at the same time. The box has 2 sockets, a USB port - for connection to a computer - and a 3.5MM jack, not sure what exactly this is for though I suspect its probably for another external sensor, hope the manual tells us more when we bother to read it <smile>. The box takes 2 bAA type batteries which are claimed to last for 2 years. Then there are the sensors for various outdoor weather measurement functions such as wind speed, rainfall, pressure and so on. Each sensor has a wire like a telephone lead coming out of these and the plugs plug into a central wireless unit that's mounted outside along with the sensors, the sensors and station inside communicate wirelessly. The outdoor wireless transmitter takes a further 2 batteries of the same type mentioned before. There are a whole heap of poles and mounting brackets so I'll save them for sorting when Dad comes up, give him something to do <smile>. Now to the software I'll be using which is the Cumulus Weather software which is available free of charge, it looks nicely accessible when I had another look at it today though I suspect that a considerable amount of time is going to be spent tweaking the software to exactly match the details of my weather station setup. The user can publish the data from his/her station in a variety of ways, on Twitter for example or devote a whole web page to what your weather is doing in your area. Unfortunately I can go no further with experimentation of the software until my Weather Station is up and running so I'll keep you all informed and with luck this time next week I should have a working product of some description. ======================================= The Techno-Chat E-Mail forum is guaranteed malware, spyware, Trojan, virus and worm-free To modify your subscription options, please visit for forum's dedicated web pages located at http://mail.tft-bbs.co.uk/mailman/listinfo/techno-chat You can find an archive of all messages posted to the Techno-Chat group at either of the following websites: http://mail.tft-bbs.co.uk/pipermail/techno-chat/index.html Or: <http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]> you may also subscribe to this list via RSS.
