Hi everyone!
One of the most vexing problems to a lot of those users of cordless phones and
associated equipment would seem to be the total inaccessibility of some
functions which one may have to depend upon in an emergency, a case in point
here is the Phone book of a cordless phone system where the user has to read
the screen in order to find the number in the phone book. Its also the case
that the user has to be able to read the screen in order to add a full entry to
the phone book.
Have I totally solved this problem? Well no, not yet but I’ve made some good
progress, at least I’ve found a way of adding phone numbers to the phone book
of my cordless phone system and I can easily define 2 or 3 digit codes for the
keypad of the phone so calls to the defined numbers can be made quickly and
easily in the event of an emergency situation.
I wrote briefly about the Fritzbox router last week, as well as being a router
this device is a cordless phone base station so I bought 2 additional handsets
with the box.
The Box has been full thus far of many pleasant surprises in the amount of
configurable features and functions, amongst which is the ability to view all
incoming, missed and outgoing calls via a very accessible HTML interface.
Once you’re in the “Call list” table, you can choose to “Add Entries” to your
phone book thus assigning the incoming, outgoing or missed number a name, email
address and so on to the phone book.
Likewise you can go directly to the phone book and add/edit to your hearts
desire adding specific “Speed Dial” codes - for want of a better description -
along the way.
You can have multiple phone books if that’s what you require, say one phone
book for every handset you have, ideal! for family situations.
The base station supports up to 6 handsets.
DECT compatible handsets can be used with the Fritzbox but the manual does warn
that not all features may be available.
So you don’t have a cordless phone? Not to worry, the Fritzbox can support 2
telephones so you don’t even have to buy a new phone to have access to the
features I’ve described above though more features are available to you if you
have the compatible cordless handsets.
For example, the user can define Podcasts or Radio stations to play over the
handset, define ringer tones both from a preset list or add personal
favourites, ringer volumes and so on.
I’m still learning about the Fritzbox and the cordless handsets, I’ve never
seen so many features and functions crammed into such a small unit.
And yep, “Hands Free Speakerphone” on the Fritz handsets is about the best I’ve
heard, very little background noise, full duplex and extremely good clarity,
even better clarity is achieved when you’re making direct VOIP calls over the
Internet.
