Hi Everyone!
The above subject line states my opinion though I'm prepared to stick with
it<smile>.
I won't go over all that Image does as we'd be here for a good few hours
talking about the many virtues, features and functions of the software but I
would like to share with you my latest experience with Image For Windows.
As list members would know I now have a brand new Desktop PC running Windows
which I'm enjoying very much.
In the days of my old Desktop PC I ran Image for Windows on a regular basis to
backup that particular system, Image For Windows would backup the hard drives
of that system to my Time Capsule and I could restore it from thus whenever
required.
So new computer, new installation of Image for Windows and time to work out
what I may require from the old PC backup.
At first glance it looked as though I wouldn't be able to easily restore what I
wanted from the old PC backup to the new, Image for Windows - in standard
restoration mode -offers the ability to install by partition - byte-by-byte and
whilst that's perfectly logical I didn't want to ruin my current installation
of Windows so for a solution? Well that was found with one of the utilities
that's installed alongside Image For Windows called TB-Mount.
Put simply this utility mounts a backup as a drive thus you can browse it as
you would any other hard drive on your computer so finding and restoring what
you exactly want is just a matter of browsing the drive, finding what you want,
copying and then pasting the desired object or files to another location, how
nifty is that!
There are several other utilities I received with Image For Windows including a fully
featured accessible keyboard controlled DOS restoration utility which - I hope - will
work with a DOS screen reader wel enough in some way for me to accomplish a full
Windows restore to a machine with an empty hard drive? Here's hoping<smile>.
