I'm going to reply to this point by point.

I have had Panasonic units here in the past, Micro Systems for want of a better

controls, workings etc.

What we have isn't being marketed as a micro system. It's a desktop audio
system. It's actually about the same side length-wise as the TSX-140 but only
about half as deep and about 2 thirds the height. I'll try and get the model
number so that we have some idea of exactly what we're dealing with here.
Lynne did tell me, but I've forgotten.

Too much emphasis on digital amps? Well maybe but the fact is that with digital
amplification as you would have noted yourself there is no distortion to speak
of and that's only one advantage.

If there had been it would be back in the shop we bought it from by now.

Its probably a mute point asking about digital amps and whether or not your
system has them as just about everything sold in the audio field these days
does.

Even the very cheap end radios I looked at use that technology.

Regarding the Yamaha TSX-140? I just went and had a look at the catalogue and
its interesting to note that the unit isn't being sold here any more? Fault in
design perhaps? Possibly and nothing's perfect. The other unusual thing is
that the Yamaha TSX-130 is still being sold here and the TSX-140 is supposed to
be technically superior to the TSX-130? Well perhaps and perhaps not <smile>,
the TSX-130 still works as well as the day I bought it and for that I'm
thankful, the last thing I'd want is to go through all the drama that You and
Lynne went through with your Yamaha.

Faulty design, for sure! Even Yamaha told us we'd exposed a design flaw that
they weren't aware of. That is to say a design flaw which Yamaha UK were not
aware of but maybe not the hardware developers. The 140 didn't appear to have
had a very long shelf life. You can still buy them over here but it seems that
the high street retailers are not selling them now. I looked actually the
other day and was told by the person we dealt with that the 130 is now regarded
as obsolete as well. To be honest we had enough trouble with the company we
got the 140 from, and had no desire to get our fingers burned again. Granted
that in all probability if we'd bought another unit it would probably have
lasted years. But all things considered I'm quite happy with what we now have.
The dock is much better than the Yamaha had, as is the USB support. It plays
a lot more formats, including from your iTunes library and via Air Play. I was
a little surprised to see that it doesn't have an E
thernet interface. But at least it does what it does very well and given that
we only use it at night, it was never intended to be used at high volume. It
always baffled me why people need to play their music at high volume in a house
or in a car. But that's another story.
