The thing I didn't like about recent drives, and that includes the "MyPassport"
drives especially, is the hidden and unremovable partition. Thus, WD500 or
whatever they choose to name the partition, comes up on your desktop if you
have a Mac. If you have Windows it's even worse because you're bombarded by the
"AutoPlay" windows. I know, of course, that you can turn those windows off.
But the drive is still present and to be honest it drives me nuts!

I also happen to believe that FireWire800 or 1394B, to give it its proper name,
still has quite a large part to play. It has one nice function which USB
drives do not; and that is the ability to "Chain" multiple devices. I kind of
wish we hadn't been swayed by the USB 3.0 functionality now, as there was a
really nice desktop drive in the shop which did sport that protocol. The only
thing which swayed us really was the capacity of the storage.

Be that as it may, it's now done and there's no going back because you cannot
return the drive to factory default. In any event, there is a clause in the
consumer legislation here in the UK which exonerates devices which contain
software, or even software titles themselves, from being eligible for swap
within the usually mandatory 28 days after purchase. This is because the
reseller is unable to resell these licensed products a second time.

Be that as it may, the decision is now made and in any case, as I said, the
capacity of the drive is higher. I was able to zap all that Western Digital
junk software from the drive on this occasion so the entire drive is now
formatted according to my preference, Mac OS X Extended Case Sensitive
Journaled.

I' msure the next version of western digital drives will hav eit. and not all
computers that people will own has the new connection.but as long as it works
and western digital keeps continuing to make their line up as good as it's
been over the past 5 years I will continue to use them.

Tc all and be blessed.
