I have installed the Nokia Screen Reader on my N86 this morning. Initial
impressions are excellent for a free offering like this one! I am able
to browse web pages, write and read text messages, use the phone
unaided, and the voice in my case is very good since the Nokia HQ
supports English UK as a language. After installation I had to reboot
the phone in order to get speech, but this was expected after reading
through the manual. Also when I uninstalled Talks, I not only had to
reboot the phone; I also had to re-enable Nokia Screen Reader, which is
done through the Nokia Screen Reader shortcut found in the applications
menu. This was fairly easy in my case since I only had to press menu, 0
to open the Applications menu, scroll up once to select Nokia Screen
Reader, select to open the configuration application, then select once
more to turn it back on. I also removed Eloquence and that was painless.
In the configuration application, if you press options, which is button
1, then scroll down, you will find help. I was impressed as it describes
the keyboard shortcuts available with Nokia Screen Reader, such as long
press left to read various status information, such as battery and
signal levels.
Hope you like my initial impressions.
Chat soon Chris.
