Hi all has anybody tried using something like Easy CD-DA Extractor in batch mode to convert full album files which are in FLAC format with an external cue sheet to FLAC individual tracks? I'm seriously thinking of re-compiling all of our albums in this way because obviously playing them would produce far far better quality than either M4a at high bit rates or MP3 at the equivalent bit rates. There's another reason why I am seriously considering doing this. If you have either MP3 or AAC (M4a) files, and you wish to stream them via the Internet, each codec in the pipeline will discard certain audio elements in order to produce a valid audio stream. If you use the same codec twice, in other words, you have AAC M4a files and you wish to stream in MP3, each codec will discard its own elements and the resulting audio will be tainted. If, however, you use FLAC tracks which are obviously lossless, the encoding process only needs to be done once which obviously produces far less latency and the resulting audio is far far better. I have actually tried this myself using both an AAC M4a file and also a FLAC file encoded to an Internet stream. Before I heard it I was skeptical. Not any longer! The difference between the two is very very noticeable. So I'm looking into the best and most convenient method of encoding. Obviously under Apple's platform playing the FLAC tracks will be problematic. But I think there's a way to do it, so I am going to look into that as well. I don't really want to migrate from iTunes because of its synchronisation with external devices. But it would be nice if I can find a way to still sync content. That may involve retaining an AAC version as well. If so, then so be it.
Anyway, my question. Does anybody happen to know whether it is possible to have an application do this conversion in batch mode? I.e., create the folders and convert the tracks with the correct filenames into those folders. Sorry for the waffle but I've been awake all night and I'm tired. Not making excuses but I have a day of work ahead so I cannot rest. :) Gordon <--- Gordon Smith ---> If you wish to contact me privately, please use E-Mail in the first instance, before you try the below.
