Subject line says it all. I have one already but this one is somewhat
different.

The one I own currently does all the measurements I require - rain, wind
direction, due point, humidity, inside and outside temperature pressure etc -
and will even allow me to publish the data on the web or Twitter if I want to
but the new station is even better.

The current station I have has sensors which are battery powered and there's no
warning when the batteries in those go flat so you just have to assume that if
something's not working then perhaps the battery has failed.

These sensors talk to the main transmitter via a radio frequency somewhere in
the 150MHZ band, the sensors transmit the information and the weather station
receives it.

The new model - whilst still using the same RF band - has solar powered sensors
so no need to worry about replacing batteries. Each of the sensors has a
rechargeable battery which gets charged during the day so the sensor is powered
at night or at times when there's no sunlight, just common sense.

The other innovation for the new station is that all the controls and readings
are found in an App on your iPhone rather than from the indoor station itself,
I would imagine that everything is still displayed there but having the iPhone
App with all the information and adjustments etc is just the next logical step
forward.

I'm buying this station on chance if you like as I have absolutely no idea how
accessible the iPhone App is going to be yet however - given my luck with
iPhone Apps - I consider the purchase of the new station very much worth the
risk given that I'm not just buying it for the sake of an iPhone App.

The station - like the current one I'm using - allows me to communicate to the
computer, I use the Cumulus software under Windows to Interface with the
Station, the software downloads all the material from the Station as its
collected and displays it, publishes it, archives it and so on.

There is software that came with my existing and with the new station though I
don't know how accessible the new software for the new station will be, I can
tell you the software for my current stations is quite usable though it doesn't
do a lot.

The Cumulus software is open source and thus available free of charge, I'm not
sure if a version is available for the Mac but i know its available for LYNUX.

The Station Interfaces with your computer via a USB connection which is rather
odd given the rest is controlled wirelessly, you'd think that the station would
take full advantage of Wi-Fi? Perhaps there's a good reason for this, perhaps
Wi-Fi technology draws more current thus making it impractical for a weather
station and the battery life of 1 year.
