I’m not an expert on this subject - we do have a mobile engineer on list and Iaen would be better qualified to express an opinion in this discussion than I - but my understanding was that all the 2G across Australia in the coming years was to be discontinued given that very few phones on the network - be it in regional or city areas - still use it.
In any case, is it really an issue as so few of us have 2G phones now it seems. > On 28 Oct 2014, at 10:03 am, Robert Johns <[email protected]> wrote: > > Hi Dane > > This is not the full story. > > For those of us who live in areas where only 900mhz is available (ie regional > and remote areas) only 2G will work on many phones until all towers are > upgraded, even if the phone and SIM are 3G capable. > > Robert > > http://whirlpool.net.au/wiki/3G_Frequencies > > -------------------------------------------------- > From: "Dane Trethowan" <[email protected]> > Sent: Monday, October 27, 2014 2:12 PM > To: "discussion and support of technology for vision impaired Australian > andnew zealanders." <[email protected]> > Subject: OzTech Article Smartphones stuck in the slow lane > >> Hi! >> >> This article is of particular interest to those who ar using older mobile >> phone models, I use an Apple iPhone 6 but I have a Nokia N82 as a backup so >> looks as though the Nokia will be useless before too long?
