He could do the same thing using seri, it works exactly the same way, and
the 4S does ineed have seri on it.
Puzzled why your friend found it problematic.

I was out and about yesterday and whilst traveling I had the pleasure of
explaining to my friend the virtues of the Samsung Galaxy S6 of which there
are many.
I was then given a task of sending a Text Message easily from my Samsung
Galaxy s6 to my friend's Apple 4S iPhone, sending a Text Message easily
whilst driving was something my friend claimed he couldn't do with his iPhone
4S
Perhaps its just me but I fond using a touch screen keyboard an absolute
menace when on the move so I decided to employ Google Now for the Text
Message sending, I have the Google Now Launcher installed and running by
default.
I double-tapped the "Voice Search" button at the top right of the screen
below the notification panel and said "Send sms to friend saying hello".
The S6 responded with "Send SMS to Friend, change it or send it", I replied
with "Send it" and my friend then had it on his phone's screen.
Yes, nothing much in the scheme of hthings I guess but even I was surprised
just how well google now performed the task at hand given the heavy rain and
other traffic noise that could be plainly heard.
