Hello everybody

Today I took receipt of a portable OCR/MAGNIFIER/SCANNING machine, known as the
iReader. Actually, I forget the name of the manufacturer just now, and I'm away
from home as I write. But this machine is actually the iReader+ which is the
portable version. The desktop (AC powered only) version is the iReader.

In some ways, this machine is not fully accessible which, although I am not
unduly worried, did surprise me. I believe it is powered by Windows CE (Mobile)
v6,0. It ras a clear not quite human sounding voice, and the camera arm folds
into the side of the machine when not in use. The camera is far smaller than,
for instance, the Sara CE, (which I also own) from Freedom Scientific. But I
wanted this machine because of the portability and invenience of not having to
be tied to a computer just to read my mail.

The body of the machine is actually quite large, but it comes supplied with a
reinforced hard case for transporting it, and although I have not yet used it
to scan a document, (which I will do when I get home), from the online demo I
just given, it seems very accurate.

If, and only if, there is any interest, I shall prepare an audio demonstration
and provide a link to download it directly to your computer. Please let me
know, either on list or otherwise, if you are interested and would like to hear
this.
