Hello everybody

Firstly, I'm pleased to say that the group is functional again. Unfortunately,
my connectivity provider chose last week, the very time when the gods chose to
strike me with a double dose of cepticimea and double pneumonia, to break our
Internet. I fixed it when I returned from hospital on Thursday night.

Anyway, to the point. I'm delighted to be able to say that the HumanWare
BrailleNote Touch is now the finished article. With last week's free firmware
update, version 2.0 introduced some major enhancements, including:
KeyMath, a means of jranslated and back-translating between Braille Maths and
literary Braille.
KNFB Reader integration: Allows for the Touch used to convert printed material
into readable Braille in either grade 1 or 2, traditional or UEB, in seconds.
Note: If the print includes mathematical symbols, these are translated
on-the-fly.
For me, the best new feature is the all-new terminal support. With support for
all the major PC screen-readers, Voiee-Over on MacOS El Capitan and Sierra and
all versions of IOS from 8.0 upwards, plus all Android devices.

Unlike other terminal emulations, this time, HumanWare has really done the job
properly. Instead of trying to work around the KeySoft shortcuts, some of which
would clash with those of the Terminal app, all KeySoft shortcuts are disabled
when in Terminal mode. This brings the obvious advantage of having "total"
terminal mode, bi-directionally, with Braille input and output in grade 2, plus
speech if required. So you get total feedback from your mobile devide through
to your Touch.

My understanding is that, for version 3.0 of KeySoft, HumanWare is working on a
mhone call app which will allow the Touch user to make and receive phone calls
from the iPhone or android mobile directly from within the Touch interface. All
this is possible because the Touch is itself an Android based device and,
therefore, unfettered by the irritatingly restrictive Windows Mobile SDK.

Needless to say, as a Touch user myself who has just upgraded to version 2.0 of
the firmware, I'm absolutely thrilled with these major developments. I am now
very glad that Elitech and Freedom Scientific made such a butch-up of the
ElBraille. I'd have been quite irritated to have bought one of those needlessly.
