It seems as though Apple have abandoned any further plans to develop their Airport Wi-Fi units and perhaps its just as well given these devices lag well behind many of today's available Wi-Fi systems. The following article details some of the replacements available for your old and faithful Airport unit.
Interestingly I notice that no Asus units are mentioned.
Netgear and D-Link are mentioned though - on last inspection of routers coming from those bands - they didn't appear too accessible through the Web Interface. Other options from Google etc are presented in the article and they're configured/monitored through IOS/Android Apps.
