Hi! I’m absolutely astonished at the power of computers these days whether they be Desktop, Laptop, Tablet or even the new breed of Mini computing solutions that have come on stream over the past few years. I’ve written extensively about the Raspberry Pi and I’ll write more about the Beagle Board next year when I get it. I Have a new Mini computing solution in the form of an Intel Nic arriving next week. This machine is a bare-bones system so extra components and configuration is required but once done? Well I’ll have quite a nifty Windows 10 machine. The Nic comes in various CPU forms and I have one of the basic Intel Celeron CPU types, you can purchase an Intel Nic running a 6th Generation Intel I7 if that’s what you’re after. The Nic measures around 4 inches square and has quite a bit of connectivity including Wi-Fi, USB 2 and 3 and HDMI connectivity. A 500GB HD or SSD can be inserted for storage and I think only one of these units can be used but still, 500GB is more than enough for most people. I’m not sure what the total amount of memory is these machines can use, I’m going to put 4GB in mine which I think should be more than enough. So still not happy about a Mini computer and don’t really want to configure anything? Well how about the Intel Compute Stick. That’s exactly what it is, a stick with a HDMI connector on one end and a Micro USB connector for power on the other. The stick can run Windows 10, has 2GB of RAM and a 32GB SSD drive along with Wi-Fi connectivity and Bluetooth so quite a bit of power there too.
