Here in Maine....the shoe industry is gone, the
textile industry went out in the late '90's, and now
the paper mill I worked at as an electrician has
closed...and on...and on...I just had a customer in
the shop the other day from another large paper mill,
telling me they just got put on notice..."there will
be a large, permanent lay-off in the next 2 weeks."
The repair facility I have run for the past several
years as a second source of income has steadily seen a
decrease in profit. The market has been flooded with
el cheapo home electronics that most people want
repaired for next to nothing 'cause "I can go to
Wal-Mart and get a blah blah for blah amount of
dollars" If I hear that one more time...I am going to
go ballistic. What is the problem here you ask? There is NO
problem when you confront your Representative or the
governor of this state ....all you have to do is get
"retrained" Tens of thousands of manufacturing jobs in this
state have been lost over the recent years with
nothing to fill the void that is left. Many of these
people would have been potential customers. It has
really gotten out of control in this state. It is so bad, the wife and I have been discussing a
move to another state. The question is where and
doing what? I cannot figure out to what means and end
NAFTA is supposed to reach. All I know is thousands
of people in this state are hurting and are in serious
financial trouble....and I just joined them :(
Can someone on this list tell me about a state where
this is NOT happening...you may get a new neighbor :)
