Calvin,
New & color mean nothing, to a degree. As long as its the proper value
and a quality electrolytic cap, that will do it. You may try heat &
freeze because you may have more then 1 defective cap. "joe"

question UPDATE Replyto: [EMAIL PROTECTED] (ELECTRONICS

Set came in from another repair shop that had abandoned the repair on
it......should have known this would be trouble :(
Had about 3" of vertical foldover on top and bright screen with retrace.
I found C-447 open 33/250 volt cap open...this repaired the
bright/retrace...then replaced C-305 2.2/50, C-301 2.2/50 and then had
poor linearity. Checked C-308 and found a
3.3/160??????????? According to tip program...should
have been 220/35.......replaced with 220/35 and set
looks great.
This chassis looks similar to other Toshiba's I have done in
the past and I seem to recall seeing some red and brown caps in this
area....but, none are to be found......I suspect they were changed at
the other repair shop.......question is....which ones were originally
colored caps.......and should they be replaced with the original OEM
colored caps, or does it make any difference?
Thank-you for any help :)
**********************************************
I let the set run for several hours yesterday and out of nowhere, the
vertical linearity became unstable. Starting flickering from normal to
stretched at about 2 second intervals. I pulled the "black" C-301 2.2/50
I had installed the day before and checked on sencore LC76....checked
fine for value, leakage, and ESR... I was reasonably sure some of those
caps or possibly all I had changed were originally "special colored
caps"??????? At any rate...I went out to the bone yard and found a brown
2.2/50 and soldered 'er in. Set has been running fine ever since. Is it
possible the original "black" 2.2 I put in was one of those fluke caps
that checks good......but 'aint...(it was brand new out of the
package)...or is there something to these "colored caps" that Toshiba
uses. I guess I better let this baby burn in for about a week before I
ship 'er....I'm feeling a little jittery about the repair.
Thanks,
Calvin Neal
