As much as some of us don't like XP, as a computer tech we still have to work with it. Well, I have been saving PC repair articles for years and this one is just tops (haven't had the opportunity to try it yet - hope it works as well as he says!).
I have been using a similar technique (using the Recovery Console to copy the registry files in the Repair folder to the Config folder) with excellent results. So I have a good feeling about this one. This guy is obviously not an amateur anyway. Next time you get a box with XP badly crashed and a repair reinstall is not possible (because Dell was nice enough to supply only their modified version of XP which only does a Fresh install), try this: http://www.digitalwebcast.com/2002/03_mar/tutorials/cw_boot_toot.htm If you want the whole article in one Word file e-mail me privately. I am also editing the article so it will only be a couple pages (for quick reference when repairing a system).
