If you had gtk+ already installed using the rpm, it still thinks you have
the rpm version, not the source version.

What you can do is install the files using the --nodeps option for rpm.
But then you could probably break some sort of important dependency...
it's why I dislike the rpm system entirely sometimes and the documentation
that doesn't tell you what you "really" need for the tarballs.
