It clogs our inboxes, annoys us, and wastes our time and money. No one likes it, but there seems to be more of it every day. And the reason it seems that way is -- well, there is more of it every day. According to a Brightmail Network Probe, the percentage of Internet e-mail classified as spam has tripled in the past year and a half. Within the enterprise, it's estimated that the resources required to deal with spam will cost companies $30 billion this year. And yet, only about two-thirds of companies have implemented anti-spam measures. This week, in our continuing Learn IT series, we take a look at the issues surrounding spam in the enterprise and give you some practical information about what you can do about it. We take you on a tour into the spammer's lair, discuss anti-spam legislation, and include links to more in-depth information. We've also provided a printable glossary chock full of interesting spam vocabulary and a quiz to test your spam IQ.
