TODAY'S FEATURED NETWORK AND SYSTEMS MANAGEMENT TIP

MANAGE YOUR AUTHORIZATIONS
Barrie Sosinsky

All network administrators want to delegate as much of their network
management functions as possible safely. It isn't only an issue of
spreading out the workload (although that's important). Delegation
allows people closer to the work at hand to make the necessary
customizations and tweaks to make any project run better. Whenever
you can enable your knowledge workers with tools, you have a happier
and more productive staff.

WHEN DO YOU ESCALATE ALERTS? | Barrie Sosinsky

Anyone who has ever studied or analyzed event logs knows that a
single fault can generate many, many events. It's not uncommon for a
wrong setting to fill an event log quickly, which by itself can cause
problems if there isn't an administrator nearby or on call to attend
to the problem at hand. The trouble is that many events don't really
require immediate resolution, while others do. Therefore, it is good
practice to define and implement a set of policies for alert
notification and action, and then escalation when the action doesn't
resolve the problem in the intended time.

LearnIT: DEFEATING SPAM IN THE ENTERPRISE | SearchNetworking.com

Spam. It clogs our inboxes, annoys us, and wastes our time and money.
No one likes it, but there seems to be more of it every day. And the
reason it seems that way is -- well, there is more of it every day.
According to a Brightmail Network Probe, the percentage of Internet
e-mail classified as spam has tripled in the past year and a half.
Within the enterprise, it's estimated that the resources required to
deal with spam will cost companies $30 billion this year. And yet,
only about two-thirds of companies have implemented anti-spam
measures.

This week, in our continuing Learn IT series, we take a look at the
issues surrounding spam in the enterprise and give you some practical
information about what you can do about it. We take you on a tour
into the spammer's lair, discuss anti-spam legislation, and include
links to more in-depth information. We've also provided a printable
glossary chock full of interesting spam vocabulary and a quiz to test
your spam IQ.
