Description The Backup Engineer position is a senior level position within the Distributed Backup Team. Backup Engineers are responsible for maintaining backup system infrastructure, improving system performance, and developing new enhancements or services for the Netbackup Infrastructure. Backup Engineers also serve as a technical escalation point for Backup Technicians and Backup Administrators. Responsibilities / Opportunity: Monitoring and maintenance of all backup infrastructure (servers, tape libraries, disk arrays) Coordination with vendors on issues with software, hardware, or the interaction between the two Capacity planning and performance analysis of backup infrastructure Developing projects for upgrading existing infrastructure or deploying new systems to increase performance or capacity Respond to and resolve escalated customer issues Provide technical advice and direction to Backup Technicians and Backup Administrators Perform On-Call duties 24X7 as necessary Specifications / Qualifications Technical Skills Required: 6-10 years experience in Information Technology in a large distributed data center environment 8-10 years professional experience with Veritas NetBackup Solaris system administration experience Ability to write scripts in Perl, Bourne Shell, or Korn shell Experience with Storage Tek tape silos and software (ACSLS) Performance monitoring, system tuning, and capacity planning experience Excellent verbal and written communication skills Experience with Project management methodologies and software (such as Microsoft Project) Experience writing technical documentatioN Experience writing technical documentation -- Thanks & Regards Neal Smith Technical Recruiter Astoline Inc Office: 732-734-0711 Email: [email protected]
