* ** *Position: Senior Linux Operations Consultant* *Location: NYC* *Duration: 6+ months* *Rate: Open* *Technical/Product - Senior Linux Operations Consultant * The Linux Operations Consultant will report to the head of global infrastructure support and share responsibility for engineering and escalation support for production and corporate infrastructure. This is a hands-on position that requires in depth knowledge of implementing solid CentOS or Red Hat Linux solutions in a 24X7 production environment. You should be highly self-motivated and have demonstrated a high degree of proficiency in your profession. *Responsibilities * - This person should be highly self-motivated and capable of performing daily as well as some engineering responsibilities with minimal supervision. Additional duties include: installing, configuring and maintaining computing infrastructure, operating systems, and software products on Linux computing platforms in support of 24/7 business processes. - The position involves being 24x7 on-call on an escalation basis for support of worldwide market hours, and will regularly include off-hours maintenance and implementation work. - Responsible for implementation and support of operating systems and/or product solutions for optimum performance, stability, reliability, security, etc. This includes systems various computer systems. - Identify and remediate issues including build and documentation best practices. This position will help us ensure that we are meeting the company's business needs for failure and/or problem notification. *Qualifications* - A minimum 3-5 years in the Linux/Unix systems administration field, performing systems administration, analysis, implementation, and troubleshooting, preferably in the financial industry, and in an environment where security and availability are of very high priority - Bachelor's degree in CS or equivalent experience. - An expert with Linux, particularly RedHat or CentOS. Should be familiar with all aspects of administration and troubleshooting, unattended installation (should be very familiar with PXE/Kickstart installations), prominently used NIC teaming or bonding. - Exposure to environments that feature a wide variety of applications; database, web servers, GFS, VMW, application servers, packet filters, and the like. - This candidate should have a solid traditional systems administration skill set including but not limited to: X11, ssh, rdist, sendmail and mailing systems, packet filtering concepts(netfilter), backups and restorations using various tools, NFS, DNS, SMTP, NTP administration, and the like. - Experience with shell scripting in bash and or perl. - Experience with RAID configuration, kernel tuning, etc. You should be an expert with emergency intervention on Linux/Intel-based systems. Should be familiar with a wide variety of commonly found Intel hardware and its capabilities: varying storage types, interface types, and LOM/OOB management configurations. Should be familiar with kernel and performance tuning. - A detailed understanding and expertise with building and maintaining high-quality monitoring infrastructure. SNMP knowledge is required. - Experience with supporting and deploying Oracle databases, and familiarity with the basic concepts of this software. - Experience with enterprise storage systems (Symmetrix, conventional (e.g., Clariion) arrays, or similar technologies - NAS/SAN) and clustering technologies required. - Experienced with supporting end-users with basic usability needs.
