Troubleshooting production incidents, incident management, SQL authoring
*Production Support -
*
*A*bility to code/provide support in ANSI SQL i.e. raw SQL....not in
conjunction with the tools and plugins that help with SQL ability to
write/troubleshoot a basic select statement (to select data from a database)
in SQL ability to write/troubleshoot indexing (indexing refers to how the
data is organized in the database; much like an index in a library works)
troubleshooting indexes help in the performance and tuning of the database.
Based on this information, we should be more database/support centered than
application
They need to understand Troubleshooting and also understand a Windows
environment. He can take someone who is an expert in one area and train
them in the other, but can't train them in both. Manager feels that
"programmers" do not think on their own and he needs someone who can write
simple code and understand how to triage production indecents.
*Windows Infrastructure* - (used to find and view productions issues; they
do not use an incident tree to locate where incidents originate so the
following basic windows troubleshooting skills are needed to locate the
source of hte issue before resolution, triage even begins).
1. Terminal Services
2. Browsing from Desktop to Desktop on a Network, not just Map shore.
3. Event Viewer, advanced understanding.
1. -go to logs
2. - log views
- the three types of log views, why / how they are different
*Skills: MS-SQL, Scripting, SQL*
