I just received an opening for a Sybase DBA in NYC. The job description is below. Rate: $50/hr Job Title: Sybase Database Administrator Department: Responsible for supporting the sales trading content/production environment. * Candidate will also be supporting helpdesk and external clients as well. Hours/Work Days: 9am to 5pm Monday-Friday. But if on-call, might need extended hour support. Also our maintenance window is from Saturday 7 pm to Sunday noon, and many tasks are scheduled during this period. Duties and Responsibilities: * Provide day to day support for Sybase dataserver including backup and recovery. * Monitor dataserver server performance and tune it as required. Insure dataserver availability across various environments and take quick action on problems. * Interface with development, operations and client support teams for appropriate support. * Provide physical and logical database administration. * Write and modify existing scripts to automate tasks. * Provide On-call support in rotation and weekend work is required. Job Specifications- Required skills, knowledge and experience: * Minimum 5 years Sybase database administration with ASE 15.x and 12.x on Solaris platform. * Educational Requirements: Bachelors in computer science or related field * Technical and/or Functional skills: Strong database performance and tuning and query optimization skills. * Professional licenses: Sybase or SQL Server (MCDBA) Certification. * Other skills and abilities: shell scripts, perl and cgi scripting is a plus. * Good verbal and written communication skill. Must be a team player. Top Required Skills: Must know Sybase Must know UNIX Must know script languages such as Perl and CGI Nice to have vs. must have: Good attitude; willing to work and help the project along. This is very important. Must be a team player but must also be able to work independently.
