Position Overview
* The Development Specialist also contributes to development of work
practices, standards and quality monitoring in IT, during development,
implementation and daily use.
* The Development Specialist ensures that systems delivered meet
business requirements and are delivered on time and within budget to an
agreed level of quality.
* This role also acts as a mentor, who provides guidance, technical
expertise and coaching to junior development staff.
The Client is seeking an entry/mid-level developer with financial and
enterprise application experience to enhance and support our back office
applications.
Responsibilities
* Provide assistance in the technical leadership for the design,
development, implementation and maintenance of Global Calypso to NY Ops.
* Develop an understanding of Global Calypso and their associated IT
development requirements;
* Apply specialist expertise in the development of Global Calypso BO
solutions with the objective of optimising operational performance and
improving quality whilst increasing cost-effectiveness;
* Work with other IT disciplines to define and plan the introduction
of new systems or changes to existing systems, identifying costs and
requirements and ensuring plans are in place to exploit them;
* Oversee the work of less experienced staff, contributing to the
delivery of projects on time and in budget with appropriate quality;
* Contribute to the development of less experienced colleagues by
sharing in-depth technical expertise and application system knowledge and
providing coaching where required;
* Prepare detailed specifications and documentation and write,
analyze, review and rewrite programs to departmental and Group standards;
* Review code and documentation to ensure code meets the design
criteria and quality standards;
* Contribute to the smooth running of IT systems by ensuring that
problems with production systems and IT services are investigated and
resolved efficiently with the minimum disruption to the business;
* Small to medium sized entities only: if required, manage projects
ensuring business requirements are met, on time and within budget, and work
with the business to identify and document functional requirements.
* Report progress and problems to management; and
* Ensure compliance with all relevant internal instructions (FIMs,
GSMs, circulars), internal control standards and external regulatory
requirements, including the management of operational risk and adherence to
the Group's standards of ethical behaviour.
* Design, develop and implement new features and enhancements in the
existing applications.
* Liaise with users and business analysts to translate and understand
accurately functional specifications
Experience
. Knowledge of CASE (Computer-Aided Software Engineering) tools,
structured programming techniques, analysis, group standards and system
methodologies; and Exposure to all stages of the application development
process, from specification & design, development & testing, through to
implementation, and training.
Skills
* Strong commercial orientation, appreciating the business usage of
systems developed;
* 3-5 years of experience in commercial software. Calypso, Summit,
Java knowledge a plus
* Familiarity with server side development
* Good object-oriented analysis, design & development skills - Java,
SOAP, MQ, Messaging and XML skills a plus
* Development of Calypso APIs, xml version desired
* Knowledge of relational databases and SQL
* Familiarity with distributed systems
* Understanding of capital markets derivatives products and/or
financial software
* Process understanding of trade capture, affirmation, confirmation,
notification, settlement and event processing
