Position:  Oracle/SQL Server DBA

Location: Austin, TX

Duration: 6-12 Month Contract

 

Description:

 

Database administration support services on Oracle databases installed in
Windows, Linux, Sun Solaris, and HP/UNIX environments and SQL Server 2000
and SQL Server 2005 in Windows environments. 

 

The contractor shall have demonstrated expert technical knowledge of Oracle
databases in open systems environments with an emphasis demonstrated
knowledge of and skill in using Oracle utilities, third-party Oracle tools,
and data warehousing principles. The contractor shall have demonstrated
expert technical knowledge of SQL Server 2000 and SQL Server 2005 databases
in open systems environments with an emphasis demonstrated knowledge of and
skill in using Windows utilities, third-party SQL Server tools, and data
warehousing principles The contractor shall also have demonstrated
professional oral and written communications skills, including the ability
to prepare technical documents that present information clearly, concisely,
and in an easily understood format.

 

OBJECTIVE:  

 

Database Administration support must include assurance of 24 x 7
availability, troubleshooting and tuning to ensure acceptable response
times.  Database Administration support in the form of advice and
troubleshooting is provided to a wide range of individuals including
customers, end users, programmers and analysts, System and Network
Administrators and other DBAs.

 

 MINIMUM TASKS TO BE PERFORMED:  

 

The contractor shall perform the following types of tasks, including but not
limited to:

a.       Install/tailor new releases of and upgrades or patches to ORACLE
and SQL SERVER database and associated product software.

b.      Review performance of ORACLE and SQL SERVER databases on the open
systems platforms and provide and implement recommendations for improved
performance.

c.       Create and maintain ORACLE and SQL SERVER entities, including but
not limited to, instances, databases, table spaces, and tables in support of
administered databases.

d.      Make changes to the structure of ORACLE and SQL SERVER Meta data and
work with customers in support of application changes.

e.       Write, modify, and debug ORACLE and SQL SERVER SQL and PL/SQL
queries.

f.        Where appropriate, coordinate database administration duties with
System and Network Administrators to ensure compatibility with hardware and
operating systems configurations. 

g.       Diagnose and correct problems that occur within ORACLE and SQL
SERVER databases and application interfaces.

h.       Install and tailor ORACLE Enterprise Manager Software.

i.         Diagnose and correct problems that occur within ORACLE Enterprise
Manager. 

j.        Recommend and implement strategies for problem notification and
availability reporting in ORACLE and SQL SERVER software and applications.

k.      Develop, with customer input, and implement backup/recovery and
disaster recovery strategies.

l.         Develop and implement ORACLE and SQL SERVER Security strategies
consistent with regulations and policies and industry best practices.

m.     Perform other database administrative tasks as assigned.

n.       Troubleshoot problems and take corrective action to fix problem in
a timely manner.  Contact technical support if necessary.

o.      Support users, software vendors, and database administrators with
problems, projects, and implementations.

p.      The contractor may be required to lead sponsored initiatives.  While
leading such initiatives the incumbent is expected to lead team members,
develop schedules and plans, communicate progress to management in both
verbal and written formats, identify barriers, identify and evaluate
alternatives.  The contractor will also be required to participate in fault
isolation for database systems.
