*Hi Friends,*

*Another new requirement! This one is a Java developer ideally with some C++
and Derivative Trading project(s) *

This is a long term (12 months +) project in NYC.

 Here is the requirement:

The Derivatives Processing IT team provides technical solutions for the
operational processing of global derivative transactions. We build and
maintain the systems that handle the firm’s OTC derivatives flows and
provide technical support to a large and diverse user-base. The main
business lines that we support include:
• Credit derivatives (credit default swaps, index swaps, total return swaps,
etc)
• Interest rate derivatives (swaps, swaptions, capfloors, etc.)
• Mortgage derivatives
• Prime brokerage
The team is approximately 40 strong, with the majority located in either New
York or London offices. It’s likely that the group will continue to expand
as we take on responsibility for additional derivative product lines.

The majority of our work centers on two key IT systems. The first is a
proprietary object-oriented database and development environment, used
primarily for trade capture and pricing/analytics. The second system is a
contractual database which stores full history for each of our derivatives
deals using an industry-wide standard XML format. Trades are initially
booked into first and then flow to the second for further processing.

The main technologies used are client’s own scripting language, Java,
Sybase, XML and XSL. The candidate’s responsibilities will include:
• Day-to-day support of the derivatives trade flow -- including the analysis
and resolution of exceptions, ad-hoc bug-fixes, investigation of
reconciliation report breaks, handling user queries etc.
• Participation in ongoing projects such as the rollout of new
reconciliation reports, building improved tools to monitor and resolve
system exceptions, making small enhancements for users, etc.
• Support for industry-wide events such as credit derivative quarterly
rolls, credit events and succession events (all of which require IT to work
closely with business users).

Required Skills/Details:
• 5+ years of programming experience, preferably Java/C++ or similar
• An sound understanding of object-oriented principles
• Knowledge of XML/XSL and related technologies
• Knowledge of relational databases and SQL (Sybase preferred)
• Working knowledge of UNIX
• Some level of product knowledge would be advantageous, particularly in the
area of Interest Rate and Credit Derivatives, but training will be
available.
• The role does involve participating in a support rotation, but this is
necessary during normal working hours only. Candidate may occasionally be
asked to participate in weekend rollouts, etc, but this is not common
• Conscientious, good attention to detail
• Able to work well under pressure and tight deadlines
• Clear communicator
• Highly motivated
• A basic knowledge of derivative workflows would be useful but not
essential.
