The *Personal Software Process* (PSP) is a structured software development process that can help software engineers to understand and improve their performance, by using a disciplined, data-driven procedure. The PSP was created by Watts Humphrey <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Watts_Humphrey> to apply the underlying principles of the Software Engineering Institute<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Software_Engineering_Institute>’s (SEI) Capability Maturity Model<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capability_Maturity_Model>(CMM) to the software development practices of a single developer. It gives software engineers the process skills necessary to work on a Team Software Process <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Team_Software_Process> (TSP) team. "Personal Software Process" and "PSP" are registered service marks<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Service_mark>of the Carnegie Mellon University <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carnegie_Mellon_University>. [1] <http://www.sei.cmu.edu/about/legal-trademarks.html> PSP has been likened to applying Six Sigma<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Six_Sigma>toward Software Development <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Software_Development>. Mukesh Jain<http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Mukesh_Jain&action=edit&redlink=1>led large scale deployment of PSP/TSP in Microsoft <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microsoft> India. Within 6 months, more than 2/3 of the projects shipped were without any defects and 94% of the projects were delivered on time.
