Job Title: Infrastructure Engineer Location: New York City, NY Duration: 3-6 Month C2H This Infrastructure Engineering position is server focused rather than network focused . However, needs to have strong conceptual understanding of networking, DNS, DHCP, etc. . Must understand how to work with lines of business in gathering business requirements . Able to translate business requirements into an architecture/design and ultimately into procurement requirements . Good documentation skills . Wide technical background is a plus (i.e. exposure to other technologies that may be a consideration) such as: o VMWare o Linux (SUSE) o Citrix The Infrastructure Engineer is responsible for the advanced design, development, and implementation of medium to high complexity systems including, but not limited to, hardware, Operating System (OS), and Security solutions. Familiar with standard concepts, practices and procedures within the Infrastructure Engineering and Systems Administration field. Relies on expertise, and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of tasks and works under general supervision. An extensive degree of creativity and latitude is required. Responsibilities (including but not limited to): . Assist in designing and implementing short- and long-term strategic plans to ensure Infrastructure capacity meets existing and future requirements. . Conduct research and make recommendations on products, services, technology, and standards in support of all messaging procurement and development efforts. . Performs advanced system administration activities. . Designs and develops technical standards for deployment across multiple systems and technologies. . Designs, develops and implements backup, restore, and disaster recovery procedures. . Leads large scale hosting projects that may include system design, server and OS selection. . Researches and deploys automation and system performance management tools. . Performs advanced system monitoring for performance tuning. . Develops System Security, Operating System upgrades, and patching strategies. . Provides technical guidance and project management for large-scale domestic and international projects including application tuning and planning and installing database upgrades and patches in test and production environments. . Provides 2nd and 3rd level technical support and provides training and documentation for 1st level support to service desk. . Mentors other system administrators. . Keeps abreast of current technical developments in systems related technology topics. . Drives problem escalation and provides necessary feedback and follow-up to customers within agreed Service Level Agreement's. . Follows company policy with regard to internal controls as well as complies with SPX policies to ensure that the employee and the company act legally and with the highest standards of ethics and integrity. Essential: . 4-6 years experience in a related position in a corporate environment. . Bachelor Degree in Computer Science or related field or the recognized equivalent in work experience or self-study. Preferred: . Strong working knowledge of advanced hardware concepts. . Possesses well-developed technical documentation, project management and facilitation skills. . Ability to work in a team-oriented environment that is fast paced and demanding . Must be self-directed, have excellent initiative and organizational skills. . Exhibits a strong ability to handle multiple demands with a sense of urgency, drive and energy. . Works well under stress with the ability to deliver on time. . Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
