Job Description:
IT professional who provides technical leadership in the areas of IT
architecture planning, application design and development best practices,
and database design. This person will serve as a thought leader and
evangelist in the development and promotion of Calpine’s IT architecture.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Provide technical leadership related to Calpine’s development
architecture
2. Assist in the design and development of management processes and tools
related to capacity management and portfolio governance.
3. Take a leadership role in database design, tuning, and optimization
projects
4. Assist in the ongoing evolution of Calpine’s IT Architecture direction.
Maintain a forward-looking view of key vendor technology offerings and their
value proposition as they relate to Calpine’s IT operations.
5. Participate in application development and integration projects as
necessary.
Qualifications:
1. College degree in Business, Technology (BA or BS preferred) , Computer
Science or related discipline - equivalent experience acceptable
2. Must have 8 – 10 years of professional experience with a broad base of
technical skills, including Oracle, SQL Server, .Net, and Java. Experience
with Windows and UNIX server operating systems is also required.
3. Must have experience in the design and development of various application
architectures, including client/server, three tier, and service based
architectures.
4. Demonstrated success in the planning and executing of operational
improvement initiatives
5. Proven ability to provide development team leadership, including the
design and rollout of development frameworks and best practices
6. Must be able to manage change and value documenting processes to ensure
the maintenance of intellectual capital.
7. Must have a solid understanding of the software development lifecycle
8. Proven ability to conceptualize a technical challenge and propose a
solution that takes into consideration resource requirements, operational
constraints, and system dependencies.
