*Job Function*

As a member of the Product Development team, the Software Developer will
work closely with informatics specialists, research scientists, database
administrators, and other software engineers within Discovery Informatics.
The SD will take direction from more senior Software Engineers and Project
Managers.  The primary responsibilities of the role are:

-          Design, implement and document web-based and desktop solutions
for Discovery applications

-          Take technical ownership of tasks from concept to delivery.

-          Define and refine opportunities within Discovery requiring the
development of information systems
*Qualifications*

-          BA/BS degree in computer science or equivalent is strongly
preferred; will consider BA/BS in life science discipline, chemistry, or
equivalent if software development skills are extremely strong.

-          Minimum of *5 years professional software development*
 experience.

-          Must have used *JFC Swing or Swing Framework on a recent project*

-          Must be proficient in *Java and J2EE technologies including EJB,
JSP and servlets*.

-          Working knowledge of *Microsoft / .Net technology*.

-          Must be proficient with *WebLogic Workshop and WebLogic Sever*.

-          Experience with *JDBC, Jakarta Struts, Maven,* *web services, and
service oriented architecture* is required.

-          Experience with *XML, XSLT, DHTML *and related technologies.

-         Should be familiar with Layout Managers, Action Listeners,
Observer/Observable, etc.

-          Sound grasp of *PL/SQL* and oracle environments.

-          Working knowledge with *C# and .NET*.

-          Experience with *Spring, Eclipse, and BEA* platform would be a
plus.

-          Complete familiarity with *Unix and Windows* environments.

-          Excellent documentation skills.

-          Excellent communication and negotiation skills, both written and
verbal. Proven influencing abilities.

-          Ability to interact/socialize and communicate with/to a diverse
scientific user community.

-          Demonstrated ability to succeed in a team-oriented environment;
familiarity with code sharing and source control tools.
