Title: Release Engineer Location: Silver Spring, MD
Rate: 45/hr Duration: 12 months project Some prior Java Dev skills a big plus, great comms skills. The basic goal of team is to ensure that the products, services, or processes provided meet specific requirements. This involves the examination of a product, service, or process for certain minimum levels of quality. The team is comprised of the following disciplines: quality assurance, configuration management and release management. Responsibilities: * The Senior Configuration Manager will perform in a lead capacity, depending on the project size and scope; to include but not limited to management reporting, overall project planning and issue resolution. * This position will work in and with the Discovery Interactive team to manage comprehensive deployment activities including environment plans, pre-deployment dry-runs, deployment execution, and contingency back-out plans and procedures. The role mandates a deep technical background of J2EE, Database, and web technologies in order to be successful at automating deployment and validation procedures. * Collaborate with release management, development and infrastructure teams, to ensure proper alignment of testing activities with the release scope and configuration of the test environment. * Develops and administers the Configuration Management (CM) Plan for software and hardware systems, and implements instructions for assigned programs, processes and services. * Compiles, prepares, and maintains the master records for the establishment and change of configuration baselines. * Responsible for planning, developing, documenting and executing configuration management programs to include documentation of requirements and configuration items in operations and those under development from the conception phase through delivery. * Strategize on best practices for ongoing parallel development, featuring branching, merging, and common library management; manage tools to allow efficient: build and release of software developed. * Serves as technical support and *build engineer* to create installation packages of software across all tiers, and reports suggested and planned improvements. * Produces build & release reports indicating status of all facets of development builds and releases. * Ability to drive issues to closure; strong leadership capabilities. * Ability to work independently and to be an effective contributor in a diversified team. * Must work well within a deadline-driven environment. Qualifications: * Must have a Bachelor*s Degree in an associated discipline with a minimum of Six years of relevant experience in configuration management with tasks of similar scope, complexity, and technical difficulty. Qualifications (Continued): * Strong analytical and problem solving techniques, presentation skills & deliverance and proven leadership qualities with emphasis on individual and team effort backed by excellent communication skills. * Experience using configuration management concepts (revision, baseline, branching, release, labeling and promotion) * Scripting languages (MS batch files, UNIX shell scripts, Ant, etc.) for use in automation. o Minimum 2 years CVS experience o Minimum 1 year Ant scripting experience o Minimum 2 Unix scripting experience * Java development background focused on J2EE, Web Development, and Database technologies * WebSphere application administration or equivalent application server admin experience * Working knowledge of Internet-based services and technologies and architecture. * Experience with multi-tiered system operations in high volume transaction environments, including web, application, and database operational support and services. * Experience with 24x7 operations.
