Location is NY Duration is 12 months + TEAM OVERVIEW: Middle Office Technology The Middle Office Technology team maintains and develops the post-execution trade processing platform, supporting the Client, Trading and Regulatory Operations teams. Middle Office systems interface directly with the front office to receive the firm and customer transactions to be booked. Key responsibilities include allocation capture, trade figuration, trade explosion, trade aggregation, reporting of trades to exchanges or other venues, customer confirmation generation & transmission, and booking the completed transactions downstream to update the firm's books and records & for settlement. A diverse and increasing set of product types are handled by MO systems across cash equities, futures, options, warrants & convertible bonds. In addition, expanding the team's focus to cover fixed income products is a major focus for the coming year and beyond. The position of Middle Office systems at the heart of the trade flow provides the opportunity to see and understand the entire securities trade flow. There are interactions with technology teams from those looking after trading and sales functions to teams responsible for supporting settlement and maintaining the firm's books and records. On the technical side, there is a close partnership with the Technology Infrastructure organisation to ensure that the best use is made of hardware and database resources. The strategic Middle Office processing platform is Hydra, a high-throughput, distributed, scalable architecture capable of handling many millions of transactions per day. The team is global in nature, with a tightly integrated structure across teams in Tokyo, Hong Kong, Bangalore, London and New York. Developers in different offices frequently collaborate closely on projects or day-to-day issues. RESPONSIBILITIES . Work with the technical leads and development team to deliver high-quality, repeatable, extendible capacity certifications for our global deployments. . Analyse existing practises, propose and design improvements to the capacity testing process. . Identify, and develop tools to support the initiative. . Execution of the tests to provide capacity certifications for our deployments. DEVELOPMENT PROSPECTS The continued buildout of the strategic Middle Office architecture remains a key priority for Operations senior management, as evidenced by the firm's willingness to invest in the growth of this area over the next several years. The project list for 2010 contains several exciting major builds to migrate more flows onto the strategic platform, to expand coverage into new asset classes, and to integrate with next-generation client connectivity networks. SKILL / EXPERIENCE MANDATORY . IT industry experience, involving hands-on core Java development. . Familiarity with UNIX or UNIX-like operating systems. . Experience of UNIX and Perl scripting . Database skills - SQL, understanding of query optimisation, etc. . Strong verbal and written communication skills given the global nature of the team . Self starter who is highly motivated to excel and take on growing responsibilities PREFERRED . Relevant experience in the financial industry is preferred, but not essential . Experience of capacity and performance analysis and problem solving skills in a high-throughput transactional system. .
