We are looking for a senior software developer, who has participated in full
life-cycle projects, to help with upgrading an existing scientific code to a
market-ready simulation software suite with a multi-functional GUI. This one
year contract-to-hire involves developing a clear, maintainable and
extensible code to optimally bridge a numerical math kernel with a
multi-functional user interface. The scope of this project involves
designing a new ready-for-market look and feel for the GUI, debugging /
restructuring / adding new functionality to the existing GUI Java code
according to a list of specifications to be provided, optimizing the
existing and new GUI code to optimally and robustly integrate the resulting
Java-based GUI with a mathematical kernel, and maintaining different
versions of software. This is a great opportunity to participate in
delivering a brand new simulation software to the Photonics/Optics software
market.

*Requirements:*

   - Excellent programming skills, Java (C++ is a plus) with at least 5
   years of industrial software development experience; strong knowledge of
   JNI, Java SWING/AWT, synchronization / multithreading.
   - Deep understanding of Java memory handling.
   - Deliver clear, maintainable, well-commented and extensible code.
   - Solid experience in GUI design (any platform, Java is a plus).
-*Substantial experience in Java (C++ is a plus) GUI development (will
be
   discussed during interview in great detail); *
   - Working knowledge of OpenGL, software copy protection, software
   deployment / installation / upgrade, databases.
   - Excellent documentation skills.

History of working in an optics simulation software company is a plus.

*Specific requirements:*

   - The job cannot be outsourced and requires close interaction with the
   company R&D personnel.
   - A software engineer should be eligible to legally work in United
   States; *should be located in the NY tri-state area or within reasonable
   vicinity.*
   - The work will be mostly performed at the company’s office located near
   NJIT campus in Newark, NJ.

*Deliverables:*

   - Complete and fully-functional set of working Java programs in
   executable form as well as complete source code of all work done.
   - Deliverables must be in ready-to-run condition, as follows: a software
   installation package that will install the software in ready-to-run
   condition on the platform specified, copy protection mechanism of a choice
   is included.

*Requirement 2;*

Below is a 6 month contract to hire position at PA.

*Position Description*:

This position is responsible for designing, developing, testing and
implementing a complex business software application, specifically the
proprietary AFAS insurance administration application. This position is
responsible across the full software development cycle and will perform
production design, bug verification, and beta support which may require
research and analysis

*Essential Functions*:

   - Participate in software design meetings and analyze user need to
   determine technical requirements.
   - Modify, repair, or expand existing programs to correct errors, increase
   efficiency, upgrade interfaces, or improve performance to meet client
   expectations.
   - Develop and maintain complex back-end applications under general
   supervision.
   - Build or configure the system to perform business functions.
   - Perform tests and complete analysis on software and systems to identify
   problems.
   - Produce technical or procedural documentation, training manuals or
   instructions for end users
   - Evaluate the effectiveness of implemented software
   - Research and remain informed of new technology and development tools
   - Maintain application design integrity
   - Maintain a client service approach.
   - Maintain and company values.

*Additional Responsibilities:*

   - May participate in off-hours beeper support rotation.
   - Performs other duties as may be assigned.

*Knowledge, Skills & Abilities*

*Essential*:

§         Proficiency with Java, especially J2SE.

§         Proficiency in Object Oriented analysis, design, and programming

§          Proficiency in debugging.

§         Proficiency in reading, understanding, and working with existing
code bases.

*Beneficial:*

§         Familiar with Design Patterns and UML notation.

§         Familiar with use for profiling tools for execution analysis

§         Familiar with algorithm analysis and design

§           Familiar with Eclipse, JBuilder, or equivalent Java IDE.

§          Experience with scripting ANT, Unix/Linux shell, Windows batch
files a plus.

§          Experience with source code control tools and best practices

§          Experience working in a software development life cycle
environment.
