Job Description: Direct programmers and analysts to make changes to existing databases and database management systems Direct others in coding logical and physical database descriptions Review project requests describing database user needs to estimate time and cost required to accomplish project Review and approve database development and determine project scope and limitations Approve, schedule, plan and supervise the installation and testing of new products and improvements to computer systems Implement security measures to safeguard information in computer files against accidental or unauthorized damage, modification or disclosure Develop standards and guidelines to guide the use and acquisition of software and to protect vulnerable information Responsibility level Exercises independent judgment with minimal direction from supervisor The main function of a systems engineer is to apply the principles of computer science and mathematical analysis to the design, development, testing, and evaluation of the software and systems that make computers work. A typical systems engineer analyzes user needs, and then designs, tests, and develops software to meet those needs. An entry level systems engineer typically has a Bachelor degree in computer science or software engineering with previous experience in programming. As the levels progress, the years experience increase along with leadership expectations, with the introduction of a supervisory role at Level 4. The technical skills, including the ability to write and test programs, increase across levels, starting from basic at Level 1 to expert at Level 5. Essential Skills: 10+ years experience required Unix Engineer Linux and Solaris experience.
