Description *** Candidates should have great experience with Operation Systems and writing engineering standards *** The Database Engineer (DBE) will be responsible for the overall relational database architecture and design. The DBE must have proven skills to design (physical) large-scale databases used within Microsoft SQL Server 2000/2005 on a 32/64bit platform. The DBE must be able to work in a fast paced environment, interact with various teams and work well in a team environment. The DBE must know and understand the Operating System, SAN configurations, & hardware utilized for the database servers. The DBE must have hands-on experience as a Production/Operations DBA. Job Duties/Responsibilities: * Participate in defining and promoting 'best practices' and standardization relating to database development to the organization * Able to review and design clustered and stand-alone database servers * Represent the database engineering team in project meetings and participate as a major contributor in complex development projects * Assist developers and system engineers in designing more efficient database, tables, code and stored procedures * Must be able to document designs and create run-books for the operations teams * Work with various teams independently to provide performance monitoring, tuning, capacity, partitioning and hardware tuning recommendations * Provide complete development life cycle support from inception to production deployment * Provide expert level skills to lead the physical database tuning efforts involving VLDBs. * Participate in hardware design (selection), SAN design/utilization * Understand and provide guidance on various native MS SQL Server tools: log-shipping, mirroring, replication, DTS, SSIS, BCP, etc. * May participate in the rotational on-call schedule to provide 24x7 support Required Skills: * At least 8-10 years experience working with relational database engines (including MS SQL Server 2000/2005) * Must possess expert skills at database troubleshooting, ability to rapidly and accurately diagnose unexpected database performance issues * Knowledge and experience with SQL Server memory management * Strong SQL tuning experience and query optimization.
