Managers Notes: Looking for a minimum 5 yrs experience. He would like someone
who has moved from development into architecture. Prior TMO experience
preferred, otherwise wireless/ telecom background. Experience with ETL,
Informatica, Oracle Teradata a must. Experience with Greenplumb or Netezza
desired.
As a Sr. DATA ARCHITECT you’ll work as a part of the Information Management
(IM) organization, specifically the Data and Solution Architecture team. This
position should have expert level understanding of DATA ARCHITECTure standards,
practice, as well as ETL development methodologies. The ideal candidate of
this position should have performed as data warehousing development lead in the
past and lead in business intelligence project delivery on Teradata platform
using Informatica as ETL tool, Business Objects as reporting tool, and SAS as
analytics tool. The candidate should also have experience in Teradata systems
architecture and familiar with its physical implementation, as well as various
loading methods and data quality and error and auditing processing techniques.
This role is for a business intelligence solution expert that understands data
relationships and how those are practically applied to information delivery and
business analytics.
Sr. DATA ARCHITECT provides leadership within the Information Management team
and is responsible for regular communications with the Data Analysts,
Developers, QA testers, Enterprise Architecture team, and support groups. Sr.
DATA ARCHITECT also provide architectural solutions in various business
intelligence projects and ensure that the business requirements can be
satisfied by the most efficient and effective architectural solutions.
As a senior data warehouse resource and subject matter expert, this team
member need to work closely with the requirements teams, business groups, and
other ETL and data modeling team members. This person will be a key leader in
the area of data warehouse design Implement the overall DATA ARCHITECTure
strategy, development standards and templates, and enforce the go-forward
strategy of no database development on existing IR databases.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
§ Work with the front-end reporting/requirements gathering team to
produce adequate requirements documentation including Use Cases, DDS and
conceptual/business data model.
§ Build on existing data model for integration layer– landing flat
tables – non-relational
§ Build on existing data model – normalized area for storage of data
and retaining data integrity and deltas.
§ Build on existing data model for denormalized and aggregated layer
as-needed for high-performance reporting.
§ Model all data subjects assigned. Ongoing data modeling and other
roles picked-up as time permits.
§ Work with T-Mobile DBA group and communicate needs, environment
migrations for DDL, schema/database, backups, and other data requirements
§ Work in an ambiguous, large and complex organization on
tight-timelines with DBA team to ensure set-up of environment
§ Work with all IM teams with MTP’s and migrations
§ Work with Testing team for set-up of testing environment
§ Manage all models through ERwin
§ Provide complete Data Modeling design documentation
§ Create templates and best practices for data modeling as needed
§ Create Conceptual/Business, Logical and Physical model and manage
implementation
Experience Requirements:
§ Informatica experience is required.
§ Teradata experience is highly preferred, but Oracle is ok to have.
Teradata certification is preferred.
§ Hands-on experience with end-to-end data warehouse implementations
and development.
§ DW industry expert with knowledge of, and interest in leading edge,
best practice data warehousing/BI components
§ Knowledge of governances and current best practices for large scale
enterprise data warehouses to ensure modeling meets these standards.
§ Expertise in both federated or hybrid-federated, normalized and
de-normalized data warehouse designs
§ Familiarity with all data warehousing components (Sourcing, ETL,
Data Modeling, Infrastructure, profiling and Reporting)
§ Familiarity with reporting tool concepts such as Business Objects
and/or Business Objects, MicroStrategy
§ Expert database knowledge and SQL skills required - Oracle,
Teradata, or DW Appliances
§ Teradata expertise at the database level, Informatica as an ETL
tool and Business Objects as reporting tool required
§ Expertise with Netezza and Greenplum a plus
§ Deep knowledge of data modeling techniques for 3NF, dimensional
models and hyper-normalized models (or generic data modeling components a
plus), or dimensional-normal form
§ Able to communicate and persuasive with technical information to a
wide audience -- inside the team of experienced architects all the way to
executives
Education/Vocational Training:
A bachelor’s degree in business, computer science or management information
systems
§ Certification on Teradata, Informatica, Business Objects, Business
Intelligence preferred
