Position: Linux Administrator
Location: Boston MA
Duration: 6 months
Job Requirement:
a.. The 'must have' skill is extensive experience maintaining, monitoring and
administering Red Hat Enterprise Servers.
b.. The ideal candidate will have the following skills, however if 1 or 2 are
missing it would not be a deal breaker:
c.. VMware - doesn't need a VMware guy, he has one, but should have worked in
VMware environment
d.. Tomcat & JBoss Application Servers
e.. Oracle database
f.. Cognos reporting tool
g.. Perl shell scripting a huge plus, if no Perl then other scripting is
needed
h.. They have 100+ Linux servers, this person would join a team of 5 (2 Linux
guys, one of which is leaving and they need to replace, 1 VMware guy, 1 SAN
guy, 1 Windows guy).
i.. Senior Linux Systems Administrator Our client is seeking a Senior Linux
Systems Administrator for a 3 month+ contract.
j.. The primary role is to provide IT systems/storage support for a
fast-paced engineering team.
k.. Key platforms include: Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Satellite servers,
Ubuntu Desktop Edition, Apache HTTP Server and Tomcat, JBoss application
servers, Oracle Database, HP ProLiant BladeSystems and workstations, VMware
Infrastructure 3, and EMC Clariion CX3 series network storage.
l.. The ideal candidate will possess a combination of strong technical
skills, leadership abilities, and a get-it-done work approach.
m.. The ability to successfully manage multiple tasks on a tight schedule
while providing first rate operational support is imperative.
n.. This person will report to the IT Infrastructure Manager.
o.. Job Responsibilities:
p.. Install, maintain, monitor and troubleshoot servers, workstations,
storage devices, and associated software across multiple locations;
q.. Provide on-demand support of Engineering and enterprise environments;
r.. Document infrastructure environment and processes;
s.. Serve as key contributor for infrastructure improvement projects such as:
t.. Rollout server/storage equipment to datacenters;
u.. Implement and validate failover/failback across datacenters;
v.. Enhance service level management using monitoring/notification tools and
internal processes;
w.. Ensure adherence to industry best practices for software lifecycle
management, change control, security and regulatory compliance.
x.. Provide performance tuning of supported platforms based on resource
utilization, monitoring, and desired results;
y.. Manage disk space and memory configuration, both local to individual
machines and through virtualization technologies and SAN partitions;
z.. Provide frequent communications to internal customers and management;
Required Qualifications:
a.. Passion for excellence and commitment to make it happen;
b.. Ability to lead projects to their successful and timely completion with
minimal supervision;
c.. 5-10 years of progressively senior Linux systems administration
experience (systems hardware and software) preferably in a VMware environment;
d.. Linux networking skills including TCP/UDP protocols;
e.. Linux performance tuning proficiency;
f.. Shell and/or Perl scripting skills;
g.. Demonstrated experience in documenting environment and processes
(example: disaster recovery plan);
h.. Experience with monitoring tools and their implementation;
i.. Excellent time management and communication skills;
j.. Ability to quickly assimilate knowledge and implement new technologies;
k.. B.S. degree in IT, Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent
industry experience;
l.. Ability to carry up to 50lbs;
Desired Qualifications:
a.. VMware server virtualization: VMware Server, VMware Infrastructure 3,
Site Recovery Manager, Lab Manager;
b.. Network engineering concepts such as 802.1q, port channeling and trunking
related to server virtualization;
c.. Familiarity with the following software packages: Apache HTTP Server,
JBoss Application Server, Cognos Business Intelligence Server, and Oracle
Database;
d.. Knowledge of HP ProLiant BladeSystems and workstations;
e.. Knowledge of EMC Clariion CX3 series SAN and Left Hand (HP) iSCSI SAN;
f.. Familiarity with high availability technologies: Red Hat Enterprise Linux
cluster, Apache cluster, JBoss server cluster, Oracle RAC;
g.. Enterprise backup design and implementation: Symantec Backup Exec;
h.. Data Domain disk-to-disk backup and data deduplication;
i.. Experience with load balancers such as F5 Big-IP LTM and GTM;
j.. Experience working within an environment committed to industry best
practices including software lifecycle management, change control,
documentation, security and regulatory compliance.
