Position: Data Warehouse Architect/ Systems Analyst

 

Duration- 1 year

 

Location - Woodlawn, MD

 

Scope

 

Objective 

 

The contractor will provide database analysis and support for the
improvement of existing database structure, in addition to building the
centralized platform,  a data warehouse for disability information from the
ground up that provides summarized information, has the ability to allow
drill down to the details, and is easily accessible to interface with any
application and third party tools.

 

 

Required Skills

.         Has 6+ years of expert level experience in Structured Query
Language (SQL) Server 2008;

.         Has experience working with up to 2-3 terabyte of data;

.         Has experience architecting data warehouse solutions;

.         Is an expert in On Line Analytical Processing (OLAP) design and
development; 

.         Has working knowledge of data mining and analytics; 

.         Is an expert in building SQL Server databases and database
components such as creating functions, views, triggers and indexes;

.         Has skills in SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS),  SQL Server
Analysis Services (SSAS), and SQL Clusters;

.         Is an expert in data loading and Extracting, Transforming and
Loading (ETL);

.         Has experience with ERWIN data modeling software at the Enterprise
level;

.         Has working knowledge and understands advanced principles of
database physical and logic design;

.         Has experience with database clean-up, database security and 508
compliancy; and

.         Has experience using Microsoft Project; 

.         Experience working with DB2 technology, understanding
cause/affect.

Desired Skills 

.         Have good interpersonal skills; 

.         Has excellent writing and oral communication skills; 

.         Has background in software development (C#, .NET); 

.         Has experience with DB2 that runs on the mainframe databases;  and

.         Has experience with using Visual Studio and Microsoft Certified
Database Administrator (MCDBA).

.         Ability to work with a team environment while leading other
developers

.         Mature experience in client relationships and project scope
management.

Requirements

The system is a web-based Management Information (MI) application with a
Structured Query Language (SQL) Server back-end database. The database was
built using Extracting, Transforming and Loading (ETL) as nightly processes
from mainframe DB2 databases.  The front-end is a .Net-based application
providing reports with drill down capabilities. The technical team is
preparing to introduce On Line Analytical Processing (OLAP) reporting to the
website which requires a data warehouse to be built.

 

The scope of work requires the contractor to do the following:

 

Analysis and Requirements Gathering:

 

.         Review existing database architecture and propose changes for
performance and scalability;

 

.         Request and review pertinent background materials;

 

.         Participate in the gathering and finalizing of detailed high level
functional requirements. Interview Technical Support Services team to
determine scope and functional requirements for the project; and

 

.         Prioritize functional requirements and provide action plan to
build structure of centralized platform using Microsoft Project Plan,
clearly defining resource needs and milestones.

 

Database Development and Documentation:

 

.         Develop a logical database design for the data warehouse using
data modeling software such as ERWIN;

 

.         Develop the entire physical database design for the data warehouse
using data modeling software such as ERWIN;

 

.         Provide documentation for the logical and physical database design
and modeling; 

 

.         Produce phased data dictionary design and setup; 

 

.         Design and develop database schema tables, T-SQL code including
stored procedures and views, SSIS and OLAP objects; 

 

.         Provide capacity planning;

 

.         Document end-user application requirements; and

 

.         Document detailed requirements for ETL development.

 

 

Conducts Design Sessions:

 

.         Conduct debriefing sessions with technical team and appropriate
staff upon completion of the interviews, to share the findings.

 

.         Architect and lead dimensional modeling design sessions with
technical staff; 

 

.         Develop system architecture, semantic and schematic models; and

 

.         Work in a flexible and agile development environment;

 

.         Develop source to target ETL code (SSIS, Hand Crafted SQL);

 

.         Provide data analysis led source to target mapping;

 

.         Recommend improvement initiatives in .NET programming skills (C#);

 

.         Provide technical guidance and assistance to technical support
staff; and

 

.         Cross-train others on product features that are implemented.
